How do we prevent mothers having babies they don't want?

How do we prevent mothers having babies they don't want?

As seen from the last question about the legality of abortion, there are mixed views on the rights of the embryo being more important than the rights of the mother.

However the majority seem to agree that all life is precious and should be preserved whatever the mother’s circumstances.

But how do we help prevent mothers having babies they don’t want in the first place?

With organisations such as the Catholic Church, to whom millions of people look for guidance, holding out on contraception, how are young people supposed to cope with today’s sexual pressures?

Is the answer in education? Wouldn’t it be preferred that the governments of the world spend our money on sexual education and informing people about the dangers and potential moral issues surrounding an abortion?

What do you think?

Wherever I go on Catholic forums the rights of the monther versus the rights of the unborn comes up. I don't see how you can seperate the two. Both are precious living beings that should be able to see out their full term of life, whatever that may be.

But when it comes to contraception, the Catholic church teaches safe sex i.e. none before marriage and then for conception. It may be an unopular teaching, but If we all encouraged more decency and discipline regarding sex, abotions might be reduced.

First there are not mixed views on the rights of an embryo bieng MORE important that the rights of the mother. That statement is false. Those who believe human life is sacred only state ALL humans should have rights. It is the view of those who are pro-death that the fetus should be afforded NO rights. I believe the mothers has every right to do what she wants, yet i believe that if because of choice she creates another unique living human, that human should be afforded the most basic right, the right to live. Next, the problem is human nature. Education is obviously not the answer. In ANY area whether sexual or something like drinking alcohol and driving, people are EDUCATED on a possible effect. People, no matter how dumb, understand if you have sex you might create life. We have plenty of sexual education in our school systems explaining prevention and birth controll. Just as people know drinking and driving puts you at risk of possibly killing yourself and others, humans seem to feel "it wont happen to me". Millions drive drunk, millions have unprotected sex, with the same faulty reasoning and arrogance.... "it wont happen to me". Education is simply ignored for that persons wants and desires. Your example of the Catholic church doesnt help the point. Are there more unwanted pregnancies and abortions amoung catholics? If the teaching of the catholic church puts those who are in that faith at a higher risk of pregnancy, the numbers of abortions should reflect this. Do the number of abortions skyrocket in mostly catholic areas? I have not looked this up but will confidently state, without research, they dont. Those who are pro-death have no validity to thier argument. They simply use excuse after excuse, all the time trying to excuse and justify the unjustifiable... Killing the life of another human bieng is never acceptable, understandable, or reasonable. The only time it is reasonable to kill another human life is when that life directly threatens your life. Not when that life might "inconvienance" you. These same mothers that kill the life within them, if forced to give birth, look at this child then have a Dr. end its life, would choose differently. They, as well as those who are also for killing, simply have an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality because the child is still within them. They cling to excuses and faulty reasoning to ease thier mind on making the decision, or simply understand the magnitude of the choice and do not care. Abortion should be made illegal, humans should, as in EVERY area of life, deal with consequences of thier own actions. You dont want a child, or to become pregnant, dont create a life. Simple. Ill end with a quote....Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the heart, but they can restrain the heartless.

The whole point is that life, in any way shape or form is sacred. And therefore you are interfering with nature when you prevent it being formed, or being born.

While religions like Catholicism continue to preach no sex before marriage and then sex only for children, there will always be more unwanted pregnancies than necessary. When they manage to realise that contraception as part of a rounded sexual education process for everyone, then things may change.

Anyway that's what I think.

if you can just change 1 persons mind thats saving a generation i feel women are not only not fully informed but don't think of the future not even a yr ahead. i have spoken to a woman seeking an abortion over the phone and managed to encourage her to keep her baby! she now has a lovely baby girl!and she is thrilled with her decision, she never wanted the abortion but just panicked and didn't know what to do,but when i talked to her and calmed her down and talked about how a yr from then she'd have a lovely baby it clicked she realised what a big mistake it would be to kill her baby.that 1 child could save the world maybe that child could be a doctor, the president, someone who cures aids or cancer, a world leader. and hopefully will go on to create another generation!

without God abortion will never end!
