Why I'm Pro-life
Says starlitshores on February 6, 2008
At 19 years old my mother chose to give birth to me instead of having an abortion as many suggested. They suggested this so that she could start a life free of a physically and verbally abusive relationship, avoid being a single parent, go to college, have a career and later get remarried and have children with a man she loved. Though life was not easy for a while (whose life is?) she choose to let me continue living.
Now I am 20, older than she was when she had me. I have graduated as valedictorian, am a history and creative writing major on a full college scholarship, and am getting married next summer. My life is worth living!..despite what many told my mother. And so are the lives of thousands of unborn babies scheduled to die today, no matter their means of conception or their abilities.
My mother is remarried and has just graduated from college (she went back to school to be a teacher). Maybe some will say that this is the extreme case and all women will not eventually be able to fulfill their dreams like she did, but I am here and alive to say that it is possible.
But my personal story is not the only reason that I am so involved in the abortion issue...in fact when I was in my early years of high school I was very pro-choice. I knew that I could never have an abortion myself…but who was I to tell others what to do?
But soon after my freshman year in high school I had some wonderful teachers who showed me a video on the realities of abortion...since then for the past 7 years I have done a TON of research on the issue….I've read pro-choice literature such as Moments on Maple Ave, Planned Parenthood's endless bound of literature, etc. Pro-life literature and A LOT of fetal development information…and what I've learned makes me realize, not only the reality and sanctity of every human life in the womb, but of the horrible violence and murder of a baby that is abortion.
I've realized that when one accepts that life can be killed because it's inconvenient or "unworthy", there's too many people, or whatever road you choose to go down to validate it—you're accepting the fact that all life isn't as sacred as you held it before.
Therefore, the elite themselves have convinced the public we're just a bunch of animals that have to be culled off in the same way when there's too many of us. Then we start to accept it. When people accepted the killing of children, babies, people...that was the start of it—Dehumanization."
I am a history major and whenever my fellow majors and I learn about a horrible event in history such as the holocaust or slavery people always say things like, "Oh, I would have stood up against that!" "I would have been an abolitionist" or "I would never have condoned the murder of millions in Europe!" But what I want to say to them is "Don't you care about the 50 million babies slaughtered since 1973 in this country?! I would also like to think I would have stood up for the helpless throughout history and that is what I am trying to do in the present.
The little human beings in the womb have no voice….no one is telling their mothers, "look let me show you a photo of what your baby looks like now.." or "Here let me give you an ultrasound so you may see your baby move" "Or let me help you in your 'choice' to show you what you are doing, your baby's heart has already started beating 18 days after conception." I want to be that voice…a voice of truth to the reality of life so that mothers may not make the horrible choice of killing their unborn because they think it is just a bunch of meaningless cells or they don't have any other options.
One of my favorite quotes is "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire"~The Talmud. I truly believe that. If by making all these videos, volunteering time and money to pro-life causes, writing about the unborn, and public speaking in defense of pre-born babies, I can save one life…it would all be worth it. If I can save one woman from the agony of abortion and one beating heart from being torn apart…what greater thing could I achieve in my life?
