Americans - who are you?
Says cicero on March 25, 2008
One of the most interesting blogs I came across this week was an invitation by a blogger for people outside of the USA to tell us who they think Americans are, culture, politics, moral standing etc.
As American culture has been adopted all over the world, it's music, food, movies and spirit, the responses were as you might expect, varied and fascinating:
Fat, ignorant, poor dressers, shallow, loud, rude, narrow minded. Warm, generous, powerful, kind and passionate, are just some of the opinions shared about Americans. (But don't worry, we'll be doing Brits next!)
With many controversial military operations having been waged around the world in recent years by the USA, I expected to read some vitriolic opinions by many bloggers, and in many cases that was true. However, those who had actually travelled within the USA, or had met Americans abroad, had a far more positive appreciation of Americans and their culture.
Quote:
"originally I had two views of Americans: slack-jawed southern,
right wing, gun nut yokels, or loud, abrasive, stupid gun nuts. I knew of course that not all Americans were like this"
So enough of the stereotypes! Come on, tell us who Americans really are?
